It is caused by a tiny arachnid parasite that lives and reproduces on human skin, the scabies mite. This particular parasite lives only on human skin.
Female mites nest in the skin and develop mainly on the hands, feet, fingers, elbows, armpits and over the genitals.Symptoms
The symptoms of scabies are intense itching and then the formation of a rash.
Scabies causes widespread itching and a patchy rash (red on white skin, purple or brown on darker skin) on the body and extremities. Symptoms usually do not appear in the head or neck. The itching is worse at night and when it is hot.Transmission
The scabies mite is spread from person to person by close skin contact. That is why in adults transmission is usually through sexual contact. In children it is mainly transmitted from school or camp.
Scabies treatment is simple but must be done with care. It includes the application of the entire body with a special lotion.
