Scarlet Fever

Scarlet fever is caused by a germ called beta-haemolytic streptococcus.
Symptoms of scarlet fever? The sick child with scarlet fever may have a fever, abdominal pain, vomiting or a sore throat. The rash appears two days later, starting from the neck and face while leaving the area around the mouth unaffected. The rash also appears first under the armpits and in the groin. It then spreads throughout the body. The rash consists of small red spots which give the impression of velvet.
Incubation time of scarlet fever The time it takes for a child who has been in contact with the germ to develop scarlet fever is 2-7 days.
