Squamous cell carcinoma

What is squamous cell carcinoma?2018-12-06T10:25:41+02:00

Squamous cell carcinoma is a malignant tumor, arising from the middle layer of the skin , the squamous cells.

Squamous cells are the thin, flat cells that make up the epidermis, and look like fish scale under the microscope.

It is the second most common form of skin cancer after basic cell carcinoma.

Where does it appear?2019-04-21T15:46:56+02:00

It usually manifests as a small, red, painful bump. It can manifest anywhere. Usually it appears on the legs, head ( lips, mouth, ears, scalp hair ) and the back side of hands and arms.

Often the skin looks like it has a sum damage, shows wrinkles, changes in color as well as loss of elasticity.

The tumor is initially painless, but can produce pain if extracted, and never heals.
It can appear on normal skin, on a burn or scar or on a point of chronic inflammation.

Squamous cell cancer is more aggressive than basic cell carcinoma. It can metastasize in other areas , such as the lymph nodes or internal organs.

Squamous cell carcinoma can arise from precancerous skin tumors, such as actinic keratosis and it is bset to be treated as such.

How is it diagnosed?2018-12-06T10:22:06+02:00

Diagnose is based on skin biopsy (removal and microscopic examination)

Treatment depends on the size, depth, position and proof of metastasis of the cancer.

The tumor and the skin around it can be removed by surgery. Some people may need skin transplant to replace the removed skin .

Other forms of treatment are scraping and electrocauterisation of the cancer, cryotherapy, local medication, radiation, PDT, laser removal, excisional surgery or Mohs’ micrographic surgery.

Is there relapse danger?2018-12-06T10:19:46+02:00

The constant use of sunscreen with high protection rate can help minimize further development of skin lesions.

Regular dermatology examinations not only of the infected area but of the whole body must become a routine.

Mesopen is an alternative form of mesotherapy. It helps the penetration of active substances, creating portals of entry into the skin barrier with the creation of controlled micronulls, thanks to its specially designed head (pen with 12 tiny titanium pins), without obvious skin injury. Through this mechanism of action, the penetration capacity of the active substances increases.
