Mohs surgery

At Cyprus Derma Clinic, we are proud to offer our patients the latest advances in Mohs Surgery. Mohs Surgery is a highly intricate and specialized form of surgery designed to treat skin cancer. This type of surgery utilizes microscopic examination of tissue to identify and remove skin cancers with a high degree of accuracy.

At Cyprus Derma Clinic, we understand the importance of our patients’ health and wellbeing. That is why we use the most advanced techniques and equipment when it comes to Mohs Surgery. Our highly skilled and experienced Mohs surgeons are renowned for their expertise and dedication to ensuring the best possible outcomes for our patients. We understand that skin cancer can be an incredibly difficult and stressful condition, so we strive to make the process of Mohs surgery as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

The first step of Mohs Surgery is the tissue preparation stage. During this stage, the entire area to be treated is identified and examined to determine the size and depth of the skin cancer. Next, the Mohs surgeon will remove the cancerous tissue, while preserving the healthy tissue. In order to ensure that all of the cancerous tissue is removed, the area is carefully examined under a microscope.

The second step of Mohs Surgery is the reconstruction stage. This involves the placement of healthy skin around the edges of the excised region. The reconstruction process typically takes several days and can require multiple procedures, depending on the size and complexity of the area.

Once the reconstruction is complete, the patient will be able to return home to rest and recover. A follow-up appointment may be necessary if any of the edges of the excised region are still visible.

At Cyprus Derma Clinic, we are dedicated to providing our patients with the most advanced and personalized care available. Our team of experienced and dedicated Mohs surgeons is committed to ensuring that each of our patients receives the highest standard of care and attention.

Mohs surgery – FAQ

What is Mohs surgery?2018-12-17T13:00:35+02:00

Mohs surgery is an extremely innovative and effective surgical technique for the removal of skin cancer, which has a high rate of healing.

This technique allows for microscopic checks during surgery and for earlier diagnose.

How is it performed?2018-12-17T12:55:10+02:00

The intervention is usually performed with local anesthesia and there is no need for hospitalization. With the Mohs technique the removal of the cancer is done by horizontal layers. While the patient waits in the clinic the tissues are processed. Then a gradual examination of the preparation takes place in horizontal sections allowing for a 100% examination of the surgical borders in three dimensions. If the borders are clear of cancer cells then the wound is closed. If not then the procedure is repeated removing only the area which contains cancer cells until a totally negative tissue examination is achieved.

Why should I choose Mohs surgery?2018-12-17T12:54:32+02:00

With the Mohs method we can achieve total healing in most types of skin cancer with a relapse possibility of 1% while with classic surgical removal relapses reach 7 to 50%.

What is the difference between Mohs surgery and classic surgery?2018-12-17T12:53:53+02:00

In classic surgery the dermatologist removes the skin tumor which is visible and also removes a big part of healthy tissue in order to maximize the possibility of total tumor removal.

Then it is sent to the lab for tissue processing, which takes time and the results are available after 15 days. Conversely in Mohs surgery the skin cancer is removed with the least possible removal of healthy tissue.

Then on the same day and moment after the removal a procedure takes place and through microscopic examination the answer whether it is completely removed or not is given immediately and not many days afterwards.

What are the advantages of the Mohs method?2018-12-17T12:52:58+02:00
  • Quick biopsy done on the dame day
  • Detailed examination of the lesion’s borders
  • Healthy skin saving

Mesopen is an alternative form of mesotherapy. It helps the penetration of active substances, creating portals of entry into the skin barrier with the creation of controlled micronulls, thanks to its specially designed head (pen with 12 tiny titanium pins), without obvious skin injury. Through this mechanism of action, the penetration capacity of the active substances increases.
