Contact Dermatitis
Allergic contact dermatitis is a common skin disease. It is caused by contact of the skin with various agents which create local allergic inflammatory reactions.
The identification of the agent responsible for the Allergic contact dermatitis is the base of the treatment.
Usually Allergic contact dermatitis occurs 2 to 3 days after contact with the allergen. It lasts as long contact with it continues. After removal of the allergen the skin’s allergic reaction usually continues for 1 or 2 weeks. In cases that the allergen is not removed then the lesions become chronic. This can lead to chronic eczema.
Red rash with itchiness in the area that came in contact with the allergen
- Sensitivity in the affected area
- Temperature increase locally due to skin inflammation
- Swelling due to skin inflammation with papules and blisters
- Possible exudation with liquid oozing
- Skin lesions can develop and appear stretch marks, exfoliation, scars even lichenification if the allergic skin problem turns chronic (chronic eczema).
Among others there are: nickel, chrome, jewelry, chemicals, plants, cosmetic products, perfumes, creams, tires, solvents, detergents etc.
Allergic contact dermatitis treatment is based on avoiding allergens.
For immediate relief local preparation may be used containing corticosteroids.
