Neurodermatitis is a skin condition characterized by chronic itching or irritation. It is an atopic disease, ie the cause that causes it remains unclear, but it is not considered serious. It is usually inherited from one or both parents and is characterized by spots on the skin that are dry, red and flaky, and is often accompanied by extremely itchy eczema.
The symptoms of neurodermatitis can be suppressed but not treated permanently. Cortisone is usually given as an ointment or cream. Treatment takes time and is related to identifying and minimizing the factors that maintain and aggravate the problem.
