Shingles is an insidious virus as it can infect the body once, but the risk of recurrence after a very long time remains a lifetime as its appearance is associated with the reactivation of the chickenpox virus.
Symptoms
The signs of shingles usually affect only a small part of one side of your body. These symptoms may include:
* Pain, burning, numbness or tingling
* Sensitivity to touch
* A red rash that starts a few days after the pain
* Blisters with liquid
* Itching
There is no known cure for shingles, but early treatment with antiviral drugs can speed healing and reduce the risk of complications. These medicines include: Acyclovir (Zovirax), Valacyclovir (Valtrex), Famciclovir (Famvir).
