How diabetes affects the skin
High sugar levels predispose to inflammation, which can ultimately negatively affect the immune system. Somehow suppressing the immune system leaves the skin vulnerable to attacks by bacteria (mainly staph) and fungi, making it prone to developing persistent infections and yeast infections.n addition, when glucose (sugar) levels are consistently high, the body tries to lower them by increasing the production of insulin (it is the hormone that breaks down blood sugar). Elevated insulin stimulates inflammation in the skin and can therefore worsen certain skin conditions.
